Where Can You Go To Get Help
With An Addiction To Marijuana?

Marijuana Addiction

An addiction to marijuana causes damage not only to the body, but it also harms the addict in many other ways, like socially and financially.

Of all the poeple addicted to drugs across the planet, it is surprising to learn that people addicted to marijuana are one of the most likely to deny they have a problem.

Their behavior can also be frustrating and painful for their family, friends, loved ones and the community at large.

Many drug addicts (especially with marijuana) are in denial, so that if they don't seek out help by themselves, people around them should intervene. Addicts desperately need help. Without help it is impossible for them to quit marijuana which may result in a completely destroyed life and/or death.

It is best to have a carefully planned intervention which is the process of confronting an addict about the consequences of his addiction and ask him/her to accept a treatment plan. The treatment program should be able to meet the needs of the addict-physically, emotionally and spiritually. It should also be able to address every aspect of the addict's life.

The various treatments that marijuana addicts can avail of may be one or a combination of the following:

1. Counseling

This is a one on one interaction between the user and the counselor. This relationship is the foundation of the treatment. In time, the addict will learn to trust the counselor and be honest and be open enough to reveal the reason(s) behind his/her addiction.

The counselor in turn, having fully understood the patient's specific needs, will be able to develop the best treatment plan to address the root cause of the addiction.

2. 12-step program

This program offers a more spiritual and religious approach to drug addiction. Originally developed for a small group of alcoholics, this approach has been adapted to treat other addictions including that of marijuana. It is based on a set of spiritual principles which include keeping a moral inventory of oneself, creating a stronger relationship with fellow men and women and an eternal loving relationship with the Creator.

3. Marijuana detoxification

This is the medical process of detoxifying the body of the effects of marijuana. This is often the first stage of a treatment plan and is required before any real recovery can take place because it clears the mind and focuses it on the action required for rehabilitation.

4. Support group

A support group is composed of a group of patients (and sometimes their relatives or friends) who are usually led by a trained professional or counselor. The members of the support group share a similar problem. They meet together to share their experiences, knowledge and information, to find ways of helping themselves and offer support to one another.

In choosing from the various treatment programs available, remember that no one size fits all.

Everyone has specific needs and the treatment you chose should be able to address these. A regular assessment should also be done so that, when necessary, the treatment may be changed to better suit the addict's changing needs.

In the right setting and with the right services, a positive outcome should come swiftly. If you find that it is too difficult, or the results are taking too long, be sure to learn what went wrong and immediately try something else!

In the end, no matter the treatment method(s) used, anyone addicted to marijuana should be able to function normally again and be able to return to society.
